In Mem. Ulli Maier

Ulrike (Ulli) Maier (* 22. Oktober 1967 in Rauris; † 29. Jänner 1994 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen) was an Austrian ski-racer.

The daughter of the head of the ski-school (Baldi Maier) in Rauris already joined races as a child. With 17 years she gained her first points in the worldcup. First she joined Slalom-races, later on Ulli specialized in Giant-Slalom and Super-G. In the season 1987/88 she made her breaktrough.

She became world-champion in the Alpine Ski-World-Championships 1989 in Super-G. 1991, during the World-Championships in Saalbach she defended her world-champion-titel in Super-G. And she won the silber-medal in Giant-Slalom.

Ulli Maier won 5 world-cup races and reached place number two 9 times, and became third 6 times.

On the 29th of January 1994 Ulli Maier tragically died during a downhill-race in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
